Art In Your Stride

Most of us probably know people who are fond of art. You don’t have to be an artist to like a little art in your everyday stuff. We see these people everyday; they are the ones carrying the colorful bags or the funky clothes. Things today are no longer plain. Just as we have fancy cell phones, oddly shaped cereals we also have carved walking sticks.

Carved walking sticks are made of hard wood. Artisans who make wooden canes sometimes carve figures into wooden canes or walking sticks. These carvings are like a miniature work of art. It takes creativity and patience to carve on a narrow piece of wood. Carved canes therefore are not cheap, they could even be handcrafted.

Gramps’ Favorite Cane

My grandfather’s loves his walking cane. It helps him a lot with his walking as it is comfortable and provides a lot of support. His cane, which is commonly called a derby cane, also look more stylish than a regular walking stick. Classic derby canes are made of high-quality and durable wood, but canes made of other materials can be found occasionally.

What sets derby canes apart from any other canes is the handle design. The derby cane’s handle is elegantly shaped. This gives the cane a comfortable grip which my grandfather needs. The hooked shape at the back of the handle allows the cane to be hung on the arm if both arms are needed. Derby canes are chosen most of the time because of its design, stability and popularity.

A dog is known to be a man’s best friend. The reason why they are very loyal to their person is because people treat them as family. The most common pet any person could have is a dog. Dogs are highly trainable to do a lot of things. Dogs can be cared for even by a toddler. They are also the most suitable pets for seniors.

When people grow old, they seek company and they usually have dogs to assist them in their daily routine. They assist the elders in many ways like crossing the streets, going to the grocery, doing exercise, getting up from bed, etc. Dogs make the elders healthier and happier by simply keeping them company. For some elders who do not like or cannot have dogs, they keep cats. These pets may also be trained for basic house chores like picking up things, opening doors and turning switches on.
