Bass string instruments were very popular during the 16th and 17th century. Bass violins are tuned one step lower than the cello. They are also known as “basso da braccio” or “violene” which simply means large fiddle. Similar to the common the violin and cello, the bass violin also has F-holes and stylized C-bouts. In modern times, the bass violin became also known as the double bass.

In a string quartet or string orchestra, the bass violin plays an important role to the harmonious melodic sound of the string instruments. It posts as a foundation, covering the lower octave of the musical masterpiece. Without it, an orchestra would sound a little bit trebly. The bass sound balances the tone.

The conga drum is a part of the percussion music ensemble. It is made of cowhide leather that is stretched to cover one end of a wood barrel. Each side of the leather is given enough tension to produce a vibrating sound when hit by hands or fingers.

Conga drums, along with cowbells, maracas, cabasa and other percussion instruments balance the orchestra to produce beautiful harmonies.
