Buying Electronics

Author: Gift-o-matic

ElectronicsElectronics are always a great gift.  It’s tough to go wrong with some new-fangled device or giant television.  iPods remain one of the most popular gifts in the nation while cell phones and computers run a close second.  When shopping for electronics it’s always smart to comparison shop.  If you keep your browsing to the first page of search results in Google you may be robbing yourself of the opportunity to pay far less for top-quality, name-brand electronics.

You can also shop in major retailers like Best Buy and Circuit City so you can get a better experience with the product.  Chances are these traditional retailers won’t offer the best price but they do offer the opportunity to experience the product first hand.  And, if you’re in a time crunch, they clearly have the advantage of immediate availability.  No matter which way you go make sure you have a clear understanding of what your recipient wants and what your budget is.  Remember, electronics make great gifts but they don’t always make the best gifts.

Gift Basket Review

Author: Gift-o-matic

Gift BasketBoasting affordability, convenience and top-quality products, gift-baskets are fast becoming one of the most popular ways to give gifts.  Available anytime, anywhere they offer a uniquely diverse selection without requiring the leg-work that often accompanies traditional gift giving.  There are several retailers online who sell gift baskets ranging from gourmet food and edibles to top-notch fashion, bath & body and a host of others.  For the do-it-yourselfer in your life I’ve even seen tool gift baskets.

One of the nice advantages of a gift baskets is that it’s almost impossible to buy one that doesn’t have something your recipient wants.  This way you don’t have to worry about whether or not they’ll use or appreciate the gift basket you got for them.  What’s more, the basket itself is re-usable and provides a lasting reminder of the gift you gave!

Save Money w/these Great Gift Ideas

Author: Gift-o-matic

Save MoneyHOUSEHOLD/LAUNDRY BASKET — Try using a LAUNDRY basket, filled with household supplies, such as cleaners, toletries, and kitchen aids, as a house warming gift, or a graduate leaving for college!  Or better yet, a small kitchen trash can!  Or maybe a dish pan!  The possibilities are endless!

BATH TEA - in a section of cheese cloth combine chamomile blossoms, lavender blossoms, some peppermint, rose hips, and some oatmeal (uncooked, not instant ^_^) tie the bundle with some pretty ribbon, or embroidery floss. The cheese cloth can be bought at the grocery store for a couple dollars, and one cheese cloth will make about 200 tea bags. All of the ingredients can either be bought in bulk or tea form–or grown. If you have a garden or access to lemon balm, add some. Plus, if you have essential oils on hand, add a couple drops of lavender oil to the contents.

OK, so what is a gift?

Author: Gift-o-matic

GiftA gift or present is the transfer of something, without the need for compensation that is involved in trade. A gift is a voluntary act which does not require anything in return. Even though it involves possibly a social expectation of reciprocity, or a return in the form of prestige or power, a gift is meant to be free.

In many human societies, the act of mutually exchanging money, goods, etc. may contribute to social cohesion. Economists have elaborated the economics of gift-giving into the notion of a gift economy.

By extension the term gift can refer to anything that makes the other happier or less sad, especially as a favour, including forgiveness and kindness (even when the other is not kind).

Now That V-Day Has Passed

Author: Gift-o-matic

African VioletsWe know what the best selling gifts were this year.  Even though it’s gone it’ll be back again, only this time you’ll be armed with the information you need to really wow your girlfriend, boyfriend, husband or wife.  The best selling stuff still seems to be living plants and flowers, specifically African Violets.  Unsurprisingly chocolate also remains a top seller coming in at #2 in 2008.

As we move down the list we’ll see candles, gift certificates and even lingerie.  These last three may all seem like good ideas, but the fact remains they’re the easy way out.  Don’t get caught giving thoughtless Valentine’s gifts in the form of a gift certificate because “you didn’t know what they would want.”  Candles are OK but gift certificates and lingerie are big no-nos.  Not all women will appreciate lingerie and those who do may think you got it for your own enjoyment and not hers.  Tread carefully!

Even with shipping prices it really pays off to shop online.  Whether it’s an Easter basket or an Easter prayer cross, everything seems to be cheaper online.  Retail stores are really capitalizing on the holiday and their prices are not always the lowest, even though the advert5ise them as such!
